GROWING IMPACT IN MOZAMBIQUE

Clermont Conscience: Supporting Mangrove Restoration

At Clermont Trust, responsible governance is rooted in long-term thinking and strategy. This approach is visible in how we support our clients and how we contribute to the communities and environments connected to them.

Through our Clermont Conscience programme, our group is supporting mangrove restoration in Mozambique in partnership with Tree-Nation (Figure 1).

Since January 2026, more than 3,500 mangrove trees have been planted as part of the Indian Ocean Mangrove Restoration project (Figure 2).

“Clermont Conscience is an initiative led by colleagues across our international offices, supporting affected or vulnerable communities where we operate, and also supporting initiatives where the families that we serve live,” said Kim Grover, Managing Director of Clermont Trust Switzerland.

The species planted, Rhizophora mucronata, plays a vital role in protecting coastal ecosystems, stabilising shorelines, and supporting biodiversity. These efforts also contribute to carbon offsetting, reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship alongside long-term economic and social responsibility.

One Tree, Four People and Lasting Impact

Mangroves also contribute to oxygen generation. According to several industry sources, each mature tree can produce enough oxygen for 4 people, meaning the 3,510 mangrove trees planted through this initiative could, once mature, theoretically generate enough oxygen for approximately 14,000 people.

This initiative is embedded into our day-to-day work. For every new entity established, Clermont Trust funds the planting of numerous trees creating a direct link between our client activities and positive environmental impact.

Mozambique was selected as the planting location due to its relevance to clients with family connections in the region, reflecting our commitment to meaningful, context-driven initiatives. The country holds some of Africa’s largest mangrove forests, covering extensive coastlines but suffering high degradation from cyclones and logging.

Tree-Nation’s global mission to plant one trillion trees by 2050 aligns closely with our own perspective on stewardship: that lasting impact is achieved through consistent, considered action over time.

Clermont Conscience: At the Heart of Our Group

As a global organisation, we believe that even small, collective steps can contribute to wider change.

“The benefits of the changes we implement are immediately obvious when supporting food banks, children’s charities, undertaking beach clean-ups and similar activities. Other initiatives, such as the tree planting, may be less visible in the short term, but they are nonetheless a collective approach to improving our society and environment,” added Kim Grover.

Through Clermont Conscience, we will continue to support initiatives that reflect our values of responsibility, continuity, and long-term thinking.
